On Wednesday, Inocente Orlando Montano backed out of a guilty plea on immigration charges. Montano is alleged to have played a role in the 1989 murder of the UCA Jesuits.
A spokeswoman for federal prosecutors says Montano informed the court Wednesday that he will not plead guilty.
Montano is charged with lying under oath and making false statements on immigration forms to remain in the U.S. He was arrested in August in the Boston area, where he has been living for about a decade. He probably realized that a guilty verdict would have sent him back to El Salvador or put him on the fast track for an extradition request to Spain.
